Road Trip Essentials
Everything in our camper and what we use. Plus discount codes.
These are the road trip essentials we travel with. Not a list of everything you could buy, but a short list of what has earned its place in our camper with very little storage.
We’ve been travelling around Australia since 2022, and we’ve gone through a fair bit of gear. Over the years, we tried different brands. Travelling with limited storage means carrying only the essentials, and we now focus on simplicity and reliability.
We’re not chasing the cheapest option unless it’s reliable and of good quality. We also want to avoid overspending when you can find better quality at a lower price.
We’ve listed the brands and companies that we trust and have used for over two years. And most importantly, these are brands that we feel confident recommending to you. Some of these links are affiliate links, and at no cost to you, we may earn a small commission that helps keep this website free for everyone to use.

Camper & Insurance
Tommy Campers

Tommy Campers! We were sold as soon as we saw the interior space, and when we discovered that they built their slide-on campers for off-road adventures, we signed the papers. In June 2024, we bought a brand-new Tommy Camper S6X, complete with nearly all the bells and whistles, including solar panels, a hot water shower, and a diesel heater for those colder nights.
Yes, we spoiled ourselves, but knowing that we’ll be on the road full-time for the next few years, this was the best thing that happened to us, making life on the road so much easier!
Club 4×4 Insurance

It’s essential to ensure that your car or camper is adequately covered for off-road adventures. We were looking for a policy that covered our aftermarket modifications to our Land Cruiser 79 series, including the suspension and GVM upgrades, as well as our camping gear. Club 4X4 insurance also offers off-road recovery coverage in case of a mechanical failure or getting stuck, as well as standard coverage for accidents in remote parts of Australia, providing peace of mind when exploring all corners of the country.
The Bush Company

A good night’s sleep and shade are essential when exploring Australia. The hardshell rooftop tent from The Bush Company has proven its worth in our previous setup. We’ve been through crazy thunderstorms, heavy winds and rainfall, and the rooftop tent never disappointed us. The 80mm double-layered mattress that comes with it, we didn’t need a topper for a good night’s sleep. The same goes for their 270-degree awning and Outhouse shower tent. It’s an easy setup and extremely strong. In the past, we’ve used an awning with poles, but it didn’t withstand the strong winds.
Muk Mat

Yes! This is a camping essential. Not only does the Muk Mat keep the sand outside our Tommy Camper. Having three mats helps a lot 😉 After a year of full-time travel, we now use our Muk Mats for everything! From a door mat to a shower mat, and even when we use our BBQ. Barebones Dutch Oven

This Dutch oven is the deluxe cast-iron pot you’ve been searching for. The included lid, circular polished interior, improved heat distribution, extended handle, and pure copper accents make this a dream to cook with, from camp to kitchen. Pre-seasoned with organic sunflower oil and ready to use right out of the box. Tested and approved! Get 15% off selected items by using the code Bush&Bay15 at checkout.
Safety and Sun
Survival First Aid Kit

When you’re travelling off-grid, a proper first aid kit isn’t optional. It’s essential. Out here, help can be hours away, so having the right gear can make all the difference in an emergency. We like the quality kits from Survival First Aid Kits. They’re designed to help you react quickly and stay calm when it matters most. With clearly organised contents and simple instructions to guide you. Get 10% off simply by clicking the button below.
Will & Bear

“Hats for the road”, and that was exactly what we were looking for. We fell in love with Will & Bear years ago, when we just moved to Australia. You can say that a hat like this is part of the Aussie lifestyle, but with a sun that strong, an absolute travel essential if you ask us! Get 10% off with code BUSHANDBAY at checkout.
