If you’re looking for the perfect spot to watch the sunset in Noosa, you’re in for a treat! Whether it’s for a romantic sunset picnic with just the two of you, catching up with some friends for a beer or looking for something to do on your holiday, you’ll find it all here in Noosa.
I might be biassed, but I think Noosa has some of the best sunset spots we’ve seen while travelling. You will find beautiful pink skies reflecting on calm waters, as well as jaw-dropping panoramic views over the Hinterland. There’s just something special about watching the sunset in Noosa.
After living in Noosa for over five years, I’ve pretty much covered each possible sunset spot in the area. There are so many to choose from, it can get overwhelming. In this blog, I’ve listed my top 5 places to watch the sunset in Noosa, and trust me, these are the ones you don’t want to miss.
I have also included the links to Google Maps in this blog, just to make sure that you’ll catch the sunset at the exact place for the best experience. So let’s get started!
The Spit – Our Favourite Sunset in Noosa Spot
First up is The Spit, one of Noosa’s most iconic sunset spots. You’ll find out pretty quickly why The Spit is the most popular spot. It has such a great vibe as lots of travellers are gathering here to watch the sunset together. You’ll most likely hear music playing, see people playing beach volleyball, or someone is giving another live poi performance.
It’s a great place to catch up with friends. If you want to have a more romantic sunset picnic, you’ll find some private spots between the Spit and Dogs Beach. If you travel with a dog, you can either watch the sunset from Dogs Beach, where they can play freely off-leash, or bring your furry friend to The Spit (on-leash).
What I personally really love about The Spit is the way the sun sets directly over the rivermouth. It’s fair to say that this is probably our favourite spot to watch the sunset with friends.
You’ll find The Spit at the end of Hasting street at Noosa Heads, following Claude Batten Drive. There are a few tables available, but just bring your own blanket, a picnic and enjoy the beautiful view.
Laguna Lookout
If you want a panoramic view of Noosa, Laguna Lookout is where you need to be. The good news is that you can drive all the way up to the lookout, so no hiking or climbing for this one. From here, you’ll get a breathtaking 180 degree view over Noosa, the river, the hinterland, and the ocean.
Once you arrive, you’ll find this jaw-dropping view. It’s honestly one of the best views of Noosa, if not the best. It’s also a little quieter than the beach, making it a more intimate place to watch the sunset in Noosa. Ideal for couples who are looking for a quiet and relaxing evening.
It’s a great place to set up a picnic while enjoying the sunset. Make sure you bring some insect repellent, it’s located in the forest and you don’t want the bugs to ruin your romantic moment.
Car parks are limited here, so make sure you come early.
Mt Tinbeerwah
If you’re up for a little adventure, Mt Tinbeerwah is where you need to go. Only a 15-minute drive from Noosa and a short walk to the lookout. The walk is just a 1 km round trip and fairly easy. Once you make it to the top, you are treated with an incredible 360 degree view over Noosa, the Hinterland, lakes and the ocean.
The sunset here hits differently… You can see the sun setting over the mountains of the Hinterland, and the entire sky just lights up. Goosebumps guaranteed!
Tip: If you don’t mind the dark, this place is also great for stargazing. It gets pretty dark at night up Mt Tinbeerwah, so stay a while after sunset, look at the stars and bring a torch for your way down.
Noosa Woods
A bit more tucked away and easily forgotten. Noosa Woods is our little hidden gem. Even though it’s so close to Hasting Street, it feels like you’re far away from the busyness. Follow Hasting Street until the end where it opens up to this lovely grassy area. Here you’ll find BBQs, tables and a little jetty.
The view over the river here is just stunning. Watching the sunset over the calm waters with the boats anchored is something else. You can either find a spot on the grass or at the little beach. It’s always quiet here, so it’s a great spot if you want to escape the crowds.
Tip: This place is so close to Hasting Street, you can grab some snacks from the local shops or do like us as we sometimes get a sneaky Pizza take away from the nearby Italian Restaurant Piccolino.
Noosa National Park Entrance
Lastly, we got the Noosa National Park Entrance. You can either go for a sunset walk with an incredible view over the ocean, or throw out a blanket on the grassy/rocky part before you enter the carpark of Noosa National Park.
It’s our favourite place to watch the sunset in Noosa when the surf is pumping. What’s not to love watching surfers catching waves while the sun sets. And if you’re lucky, you might spot some dolphins, or whales during winter.
Car parks are limited, and it can take a while to find a spot, so make sure you get there on time so you won’t miss the sunset.
I’m well aware that there are plenty of other places to watch the sunset in Noosa, but with these five sunset spots, you have a great mix of river views, panoramic lookouts and hidden gems. Whatever you’re looking for, there’s a perfect spot waiting for you.
