Peregian Beach, a hidden gem on the sunshine coast, nestled between vibrant Noosa and the popular Coolum Beach. It has an incredible laid-back beach vibe and it’s one of the Sunshine Coast’s best kept secrets. 

Imagine walking at the beach with nothing else than dunes and ocean views. No buildings, just nature. Besides the beautiful beach, you’ll also find charming cafes, incredible restaurants and beautiful boutiques. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind for a weekend or a few weeks. 

Let me walk you through why Peregian Beach is my favourite spot on the Sunshine Coast and highlight 10 Things To Do while you’re here.

Where is Peregian Beach?

Is Peregian Beach worth visiting?

Absolutely! You’ll find out when continue reading this blog. It has the perfect mix of nature and small coastal town charm. Unlike Noosa or Coolum Beach, Peregian Beach feels like a place where you can slow down and soak up the coastal lifestyle. From its uncrowded beaches to the vibrant village. It’s honestly a place where you can truly unwind.

Can you swim at Peregian Beach?

Yes, you can! A day at the beach is the best way to enjoy this part of the Sunshine Coast. With golden sands and clear water, it’s ideal for a refreshing dip in the ocean. Note that it’s still an Australian Beach with dangerous rips and currents. Always swim between the flags to be safe.

Is Peregian Beach patrolled?

Yes, this beach is patrolled during peak times, like weekends and school holidays. You can find the patrolled beach near the main beach access, just a short walk from the village.

What is the history of Peregian Beach?

The name “Peregian” comes from the local Gubbi Gubbi – Kabi Kabi – language, meaning “emu”. This area has a rich indigenous histore, with the Gubbi Gubbi people being the traditional custodians of the land. Over the years, Peregian Beach has grown into a vibrant coastal village, while still maintaining its relaxed atmosphere despite its popularity.

Shops

One of the highlights of Peregian Beach is the boutique shops. You’ll find numerous unique stores with clothing, handmade jewelry, design and homeware. I can also recommend visiting the Peregian Markets every first and third Sunday of the month. It’s a great place to browse local arts and crafts, pick up fresh produce, enjoy a coffee and incredible food while listening to live music.

Cafes

If you’re a coffee lover like me, this coastal town won’t disappoint. It’s home to some fantastic cafes where you can sip on your latte. I don’t have a favourite place to go, they’re all so different. 

Roads

The best vibe in town. Amazing coffee, toasties and a laid-back atmosphere. Roads is a store, bar and in the morning a great spot to grab a coffee after your morning walk or surf.

Outer Square

A great place for a coffee, breakfast or lunch with plenty of choice for everyone. Great food, large portions and delicious coffee making it a one of the local favourites.

Hand of Fatima

A Middle-Eastern inspired menu that will blow your tastebuds. It’s a different cuisine than you’re used to for having breakfast, but it never disappoints. And of course, we can’t forget their delicious coffee and mouth watering treats.

Skal

For me the best coffee in town. My go-to breakfast is always Avo on toast and to me, Skal has one of the best avo on toast on the Sunshine Coast. They make it with an insane Jalapeno cream which is not too spicy and full of flavour.

Le Bon Delice

A French patisserie with a breakfast platter for $14 where you get two slices of toast and two croissants (plain + a second one to choose from, either almond or chocolate). How’s that for value for money?

Where to eat?

When it comes to dining, there are plenty of options to choose from. From casual dining to more fancy places. 

Bask

A modern dining, paddock to plate experience. The perfect place for a special night out or a European inspired long lunch. With a diverse wine list that compliments their seasonal menu, you’re guaranteed to memorable moments shared with a loved one or friends.

Periwinkle

Found in a quiet corner of Peregian Village. Periwinkle brings a taste of France to Peregian Beach. Their French dishes with a subtle Mediterranean influence are perfect for either lunch or dinner. On their menu you’ll find local seafood and seasonal produce, and I can honestly say that they have the best steak frites on the Sunshine Coast.

Siam Thai

A must-visit for those who love authentic Thai cuisine. The flavours are insane, it’s no wonder they are a favourite among locals. They are open for lunch and dinner, and would highly recommend their lunch specials. It’s great value for money!

Delilah

New kid on the block, but they came with a boom. A delicious woodfired pizza place with authentic Italian antipasti, pizzas with organic sourdough and delicious cocktails makes Delilah the place for casual dining.

Marielle Mexicana

A Mexican cantina serving traditional and modern Mexican street food. Perfect to share and to please the little cravings. Their margaritas are legendary, making it a fun spot to go for dinner with friends.

Peregian Beach Hotel

This is a local favourite and you’ll easily find out why. With a cosy outdoor seating, relaxed vibe, it’s a great place for an afternoon drink or when you’re craving some pub classics.

Captains Daughter

A bar/restaurant with an alfresco courtyard which is perfect for drinks with friends, or takeaway fish & chips.

For something light during the day, check out the sushi wave or Heirloom. Heirloom has delicious smoothies, toasties and healthy salad bowls that are perfect for a post-beach meal.

Fun & Relaxing Things to do

Peregian Beach isn’t just about great food and shopping. You will also find plenty of things to do that’s fun for all ages.

Watch the sunset at Emu Mountain

Just a short drive from the village, Emu Mountain is a relatively easy hike with stunning panoramic views of the coastline. A great place to watch the sunset.

Me-time

Treat yourself to a massage or facial at The Heart of Beauty, or a rejuvenating spa day at Soul Skin Spa. They both have a range of treatments designed to unwind and recharge.

Visit the skate park

Located near the beach, the skate park is a hit with kids and teens. A great spot for them to burn off some energy while you relax at the park, a cafe or at the beach.

Noosa National Park

Just a short drive north, Noosa National Park has one of the best walking trails with ongoing ocean views. A must-do for everyone who’s in the neighbourhood.

Swim or surf

Or enjoy the beautiful beach. It’s the perfect spot for surfing, swimming, a beach walk, or just soaking up the sun. The stunning beach is a great place to spend the day, and is patrolled during peak season and on weekends.

Yoga or Pilates

Check out local yoga classes that organise yoga on the beach, book a private yoga session on the deck at your private retreat, or visit one of the reformer pilates studios in Peregian Village. Solis Pilates studio offers a visitors pack, which is perfect when you’re here on a holiday.

Why I love Peregian Beach

What makes this place so special is it’s vibe. Nicely busy with locals and tourists, while still maintaining that relaxed atmosphere. Going for a walk at the beach in the morning, swimming, surfing and having a coffee at one of the amazing cafes makes this place heaven on earth. 

Being so close to Noosa, you’re surrounded by the Noosa National Park where you can enjoy scenic walking trails, and Lake Weyba is perfect for paddleboarding or kayaking. It’s the perfect place for either relaxing or adventuring.

Ever since I moved here, I’ve learned that this place is more than just a destination. It’s an experience. With the beautiful coastline, vibrant village and welcoming community, it’s a place that feels like home even if you’re visiting for the first time.
